The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has strongly rejected recent allegations made by Executive Committee member Valanka Alemao, issuing a detailed clarification to ensure transparency around the matter involving Churchill Brothers FC Goa and their proposed inclusion in the Indian Super League.

AIFF Denies Pressure Allegations, Highlights Timeline

According to the federation, between January 8 and February 15, 2026, sustained pressure was exerted by Alemao and her family members to facilitate Churchill Brothers’ entry into the ISL through exceptional measures. However, the AIFF maintained that such a request could not be accommodated due to existing regulations and commitments made to stakeholders.

The federation emphasised that on January 6, 2026, it had already announced a 14-team format with 91 matches for the upcoming ISL season. This structure was approved by the Asian Football Confederation, making any last-minute alterations impractical and non-compliant.

I-League Promotion Rule and CAS Decision

The AIFF reiterated that promotion to the ISL is governed by clear rules under the I-League framework. As per regulations, the league winner earns promotion to the ISL.

Following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Inter Kashi was declared the winner of the I-League season. This decision made them eligible for ISL promotion, leaving no room for Churchill Brothers to be included outside the established system.

Emergency Meetings and Executive Committee Decisions

Alemao reportedly pushed for multiple Emergency Executive Committee meetings to revisit the issue. The AIFF confirmed that:

  • A meeting scheduled on February 9, 2026, could not proceed due to lack of quorum.
  • A second meeting on February 12, 2026, was conducted with full attendance, where the proposal to include Churchill Brothers was formally rejected.
  • Requests for a third meeting on February 14, 2026 (ISL opening day) were declined, as the matter had already been decided.

Legal Petitions and AIFF’s Stand

The federation also noted that several legal petitions were filed by members of Alemao’s family, including proceedings before the Delhi High Court.

Despite this, the AIFF reaffirmed that all its decisions and meetings were conducted strictly in line with its Articles of Association, regulatory framework, and legal obligations.

AIFF Stresses Transparency and Governance

In its concluding remarks, the AIFF underscored its commitment to maintaining transparency, fairness, and adherence to established football governance norms in India.

The federation made it clear that no club can be granted entry into the ISL outside the officially defined qualification pathway, regardless of external pressure or influence.
