In a thrilling encounter at the Oval during the WTC Finals 2023 between India and Australia, the match witnessed an early breakthrough as Usman Khawaja, the dangerous Australian batsman, was dismissed without scoring a run. The wicket came courtesy of Mohammed Siraj’s impressive delivery.
Siraj, bowling at a rapid pace of 144kph, produced a wobble seam delivery that moved slightly away from outside the off stump. It was a ball that could have been safely left alone, but Khawaja opted to play at it and unfortunately, the ball took the edge of his bat.
The alert wicketkeeper, Srikar Bharat, did not miss the opportunity and made a comfortable catch behind the stumps. However, Khawaja seemed uncertain about whether he had indeed made contact with the ball. He sought the opinion of his batting partner, David Warner, and ultimately decided against challenging the decision through a review.
