The inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) is set to begin today in India. The first edition features six teams: Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians Women, UP Warriorz, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The structure will be similar to that of the Men’s Indian Premier League (IPL). The tournament will begin with round robins, in which each team will face each other at least once in their home stadium, followed by Eliminator and the TATA WPL 2023 final on March 26th.
Mooney-led Gujarat Giants have opted to bowl first in the season opening match against Mumbai Indians in the inaugural season of WPL.
Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur stated that she has goosebumps because the WPL has the potential to be one of the best women’s cricket leagues in the world.
Harmanpreet Kaur – It’s a special day for all of us, want to enjoy this moment. This is a good wicket to bat on, but there will be something in it for the bowlers as well.
