Mumabi Indians becomes the first team in WPL to secure position in Playoffs

After crushing the Gujarat Giants by a score of 55 runs at the Brabourne Stadium on March 14th, the Mumbai Indians have made history by becoming the first team to secure a playoff spot in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023.

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, contributed significantly to their triumph by turning in an outstanding batting display. Despite being given the opportunity to bat first, Kaur led her team to a perfect 162/8 score. The Gujarat Giants responded by finding it difficult to keep up with the pace and were ultimately limited to a score of 107/9. This was largely because of Nat Sciver-Brunts’ and Hayley Matthews’ effective bowling performances (3/21 and 3/23, respectively).

The Gujarat Giants suffered a significant setback in their quest to reach a 163-run target when Nat Sciver-Brunt caught her English compatriot Sophia Dunkley in front for a golden duck. Hayley Matthews quickly removed S Meghana (16) and Annabel Sutherland (0), which meant that the side never really got going. The loss of both Deol and Gardner caused the Giants, who were heavily dependent on her and Ash Garder, to suffer a severe setback in their pursuit of the run.
