Gujarat Giants have been dealt a major blow ahead of their season opener against Mumbai Indians, as West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin has been ruled out of the WPL 2023. Dottin is recovering from an illness and has yet to regain her fitness. Giants paid Rs 60 lakh for Dottin at auction after bidding began at Rs 50 lakh. Kim Garth, an Australian, has been named as her replacement in the squad. At the auction last month, the right-handed batter went unsold. At the time of the auction, she was a member of the Australian team that won the T20 World Cup in South Africa.
The Women’s Premier League may have seen an early controversy even before the first ball was bowled, as Deandra Dottin, the West Indies star signed by Gujarat Giants, responded bluntly after being ruled out of the edition.
Dottin will miss the inaugural season of the cash-rich league, according to reports on Friday, because she is “recovering from a medical situation.”
Dottin also posted a tweet to deny any medical condition. “I really appreciate all the messages but truth be told I’m recovering from nothing but the Holy Ghost anointing thank you #GodIsGood #GodIsInControl,” Dottin wrote.
