World Cup PAK vs BAN: Here’s what Shaheen Afridi said moments before taking his 100th ODI wicket

In a thrilling encounter at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Pakistan claimed their first victory against Bangladesh, courtesy of an outstanding bowling performance by Shaheen Afridi. Tanzid Hasan, Bangladesh’s opening batsman, fell victim to Afridi’s precise bowling skills. Afridi’s length delivery on the off-stump deceived Hasan, who failed to read the movement. Despite Hasan’s attempt to play the ball into the leg-side, it narrowly missed his inside edge, striking him just above the knee-roll.

The umpire swiftly raised his finger, signaling Hasan’s dismissal, a decision upheld by ball-tracking technology, confirming the ball’s trajectory would have hit the stumps on umpire’s call. This early success provided Pakistan with the desired start, shaping the tone for an intense battle between the two cricketing giants. Afridi’s achievement of securing his 100th ODI wicket further solidified his status as a premier fast bowler in international cricket.

Moments before the game, Shaheen said –

Big achievement for me and for Pakistan (on being on the cusp of 100 wickets). I still remember my debut match and now I’m close to 100 wickets. I’m happy and looking forward to it. (On the previous game) As a team we collapsed, you win as a team and lose as a team. We gave our best but result is not in our hand. We performed our best but a loss is a loss, we will try our best in the next three games. There isn’t much swing early on, length is crucial. We saw hard length is very important and that’s what we’ve been trying as a bowling group. Wasim was struggling in the past but the way he bowled in the nets and proved himself was a good sign for Pakistan. He proved that he can play when he got the chance.
