Who can replace Jasprit Bumrah for the ICC T20 World Cup?

Due to a back injury, Jasprit Bumrah has been declared officially ineligible for the T20 World Cup in Australia. The BCCI stated in a media statement that the choice was made after careful consideration and consultation with the experts. After all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the tournament last month due to a knee ailment, he is the second significant Indian player to miss the event.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya are the other fast bowlers in India’s T20 World Cup squad. Deepak Chahar or Mohammed Shami, who were both chosen in the World Cup reserves, are expected to be promoted to the 15-person team to take Bumrah’s place.

While Shami, who hasn’t played in the format for India since the World Cup last year, has been sidelined by Covid and has missed both the Australia and the South Africa series, while Chahar, who himself recently returned from a protracted injury layoff, has played in the first two games of the ongoing South Africa series returning figures of 2/24 and 0/24. India can choose this injured replacement without getting the ICC’s approval until October 15.
