West Indies vs England 2nd T20I: A thrilling finish as England emerge as victorious

England won by just one run, leveling the series score to 1-1

England fans might be delighted with the close win against West Indies on January 23. Romario Shepherd and Akeal Hosein remained not out for team West Indies and despite scoring such wonderful scores the game was snatched away by just one extra run.

With West Indies at 65/7, the fans seem to lost hope on the hosts and Allen’s struggle added another wicket on the scoreboard. With 98/8 the game remained in England’s hand as the rest of the overs were delightfully played for formalities as the hosts needed 74 from 29 balls.

With Romario scoring 44* off 28 and Akeal Hosein at 44* having played just 16 deliveries, the game was witnessed to get close as both of the host’s batsmen fought for the win till the end.

At 19 overs, West Indies were 142-8 and Saqib Mahmood was given the ball as his decent bowling figures were 3 overs – conceding 17 runs. England hoped the match to get ended with a bigger margin but the host’s aggressive batting in the last over had a different story.

Starting with a wide ball, Mahmood seemed a bit nervous as the inexperienced bowler had to win this already won match for the team. After giving a wide, the dot ball gave him the confidence of bowling the rest of the 5 balls decently. The next two balls went for some aggressive strokes towards the boundary for 4 runs. After getting hit two consecutive fours, Mahmood bowled yet another white ball, but the runs to chase were still far. Akeal Hosein revealed what West Indies cricket is famous for, hitting Mahmood for three consecutive sixes in the last three deliveries. The 4-4-6-6-6 surely made the hosts upset with one short run to chase. The batsmen seem to expect Mahmood to give one wider and the game has changed its fate but England was able to finish the game as they deserved it after the host’s loss 7 quick wickets earlier.

Scoring 31 runs and taking 3 crucial wickets, Moeen Ali deserved the Man of the Match as the game-changer had a lot to contribute to the wonderful nail-biting match.
