We made the most of it despite losing the toss: Pat Cummins on WTC Final win

Australia has added another trophy to their impressive collection as they emerged victorious in the World Test Championship. The final match at the Oval concluded with a comprehensive win for the Australian team. While Australia was the favored side to win, India still held a glimmer of hope at the start of the final day.

The pitch didn’t offer much assistance to the bowlers, and India appeared comfortable during the initial stages of the day. However, the tide turned when Nathan Lyon bowled to Mohammed Siraj. Siraj attempted a reverse-sweep to a delivery that pitched at a good length, only to find the ball landing straight into the hands of backward point fielder. With that catch, the Australian captain sealed the win and the World Test Championship title.

The Australian team’s triumph signifies their dominance in the longest format of the game. Their exceptional performance throughout the tournament led them to this momentous victory. As the celebrations begin, Australia can revel in the accomplishment of capturing the only missing silverware in their already impressive trophy cabinet.

Pat Cummins: We made the most of it (losing the toss). We were certainly going to bowl. The way Travis and Smithy put on that partnership, gave us the comfort after a nervy morning. He (Head) has been brilliant right throughout this campaign, started with the Ashes a couple of years ago. He just puts the pressure right back on the bowlers and suddenly you are thinking about how to contain runs rather than taking wickets. We left day one feeling like we were on top of the game. When it counted, we played really well. We could have really driven the game, didn’t have our best day and let India closer back in. For the most parts, we were in control. Boland – he’s my favourite player. He just continues to be my favourite. Everyone did their role really well. Coming off a break, everyone switched on when it mattered. Everyone played really well and we’ll savour this for a few years before we turn our attention (to the Ashes). This is our favourite format, we grew up watching Test cricket. It challenges you. When you win, it’s the format you get most satisfaction with. We love playing.
