Watch the reflexive leg-side catch from a South African slip fielder

Slip fielding has always been an expert’s job for years and it is one of the toughest positions to field at. Recently during a 50-over provincial match in South Africa, a cricketer made it look like an exotic job. The slip fielder took an exquisite leg-side catch to dismiss a batter. The fielder anticipated a paddle sweep shot from the batter and he made a premeditated move. As soon as he noticed the batsman to bend down, he went behind the wicketkeeper to the leg side and dived full length to clutch the ball.

In another instance, South Africa’s Martin van Jaarsveld ran to the leg side from behind the wicketkeeper to catch the ball. Van Jaarsveld has represented South Africa in nine Tests and 11 One Day Internationals.

Over the years South Africa has given the world some brilliant fielders like Jonty Rhodes and some slip fielders like Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis and Gary Kirsten.

Slip fielders are spearheads while it comes to fielding. A team generally employs two to three slip fielders on the offside of the field.
