Washington Sundar set to debut for Lancashire County Championship

Washington Sundar, all-rounder, will play his first county cricket match for Lancashire this year. Washington is currently working his way back from a hand injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Washington Sundar, all-rounder, was signed by Lancashire Cricket on Wednesday. Depending on his level of fitness, the 22-year-old will be available for a few LV Insurance County Championship games in July as well as the entire club’s Royal London Cup campaign. Sundar, who has previously represented India in all three international competitions, will join the Lancashire team the following month when his visa has been approved.

Lancashire have a strong history of Indian overseas players, with Farokh Engineer, VVS Laxman, Murali Kartik, Dinesh Mongia and Sourav Ganguly all pulling on the Red Rose. Shreyas Iyer was due to join the club in 2021 but pulled out due to injury.

As he continues to heal from the hand injury he received during the IPL 2022, all-rounder Washington Sundar is scheduled to participate in the County Championship for Lancashire. Due to the injury, Sundar’s performance in the IPL, where he was playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in his debut season, was hindered, and he was not selected for India’s subsequent five-match T20I series against South Africa. At Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy, Sundar is presently undergoing rehabilitation.

With 108 points, Lancashire is now third in County Championship Division One, behind Hampshire and Surrey.

After its Vitality Blast T20 matches on June 26, it will start playing red-ball cricket again with a match against Gloucestershire.
