Virat Kohli’s selfless gesture goes viral as he refuses to complete his fifty, preferring Dinesh Karthik’s fabulous thrashing in the last over

India defeated South Africa 2-0 on Sunday in Guwahati to wrap off the series. India and South Africa battled it out on a superb batting surface at the Barsapara Stadium under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav and David Miller. After 40 overs, during which a snake intervened, a floodlight failed, and 458 runs were scored, India edged out the Proteas by 16 runs to win their first-ever home T20I series.

Suryakumar Yadav in particular unleashed chaos on the South African bowlers, smashing 54 of his 61 runs in boundaries, including five fours and as many sixes. India’s innings featured a flurry of boundaries across all areas of the field. When Suryakumar was replaced in the game’s 19th over, Kohli adopted an aggressive strategy and quickly reached 49 before the start of the last over.

However, Dinesh Karthik remained in the game for the final over and got things going by hitting a four off the first pitch against Kagiso Rabada. Karthik despatched the fourth ball of the over over deep square leg by using an overhead path. The batter approached Kohli at that point because he needed just one more run to hit his fifty-run milestone, but the former Indian captain, in a remarkably unselfish gesture, requested Karthik to continue on strike and put a good finish on the innings.
