Vice-captain KL Rahul smashes a century on day 1 of the first Test

Day 1 of the first test match has been dominated by the Visitors completely. KL smashed his first century in Rainbow nation.

Indian opening batsman KL Rahul has continued his great form to enter the elite club of openers. After scoring the century against South Africa, KL Rahul equals the tally of centuries (4) hammered by Indian openers. Virender Sehwag has 4 centuries and Sunil Gavaskar (15) the most by any Indian opener outside the subcontinent region.

KL Rahul becomes the only Indian opener to have scored a century against South Africa, England, and Australia. The brilliant form of batter stays from Lord’s century earlier and has solved the problem of openers for the team on the overseas conditions.

Rahul has completed his 7th century as a vice-captain who replaced injured Rohit Sharma. Karnataka batsman has played some serious cricket since his debut in 2014.

Dominated the first session with partner Mayank Agarwal as both have put on 83 run stands in the opening session of the day. KL Rahul had started in a typical test match style waiting for the opportunities to come by.

Though in the second session Mayank Agarwal got out at the score of 60 runs off Lungi Nigidi. The one end has been kept secure by KL Rahul with Virat Kohli after the Pujara wicket on successive deliveries.

With skipper, KL Rahul added on 83 runs stand partnership for the 3rd wicket. Before Kohli was dismissed by Lungi Nigidi and disappointed again. Earlier in day, KL Rahul and Mayank 117 run stand partnership for the first wicket add another feat in their cabinet. Both players have face more than 20 overs by pair since last decade.
