In an exciting development, Viacom18 has emerged as the holder of the digital rights for the upcoming India vs West Indies series. The media conglomerate will stream the matches for free on Jio Cinema, which had previously served as the digital platform for the IPL 2023. The digital content has been sub-licensed to Viacom18 by Dream Sports, the promoters of FanCode and the rights holders for Cricket West Indies bilateral matches.
In addition to the digital rights, Dream Sports is also working on securing a deal with national broadcaster Prasar Bharati for the linear rights. As part of this arrangement, DD Sports will continue to broadcast the games on television, extending the partnership that was formed between the two parties last year.
“We are currently exploring various arrangements for the series. While the matches will be available on FanCode, we may also distribute the content to a few other platforms, both linear and digital,” stated a representative from Dream Sports.
The inclusion of Viacom18 as the digital rights holder adds a new dimension to the broadcasting landscape of the India vs West Indies series. With Jio Cinema offering free streaming of the matches, fans will have easy access to live coverage and highlights, enhancing their viewing experience. This partnership not only benefits the audience but also showcases the increasing popularity and demand for digital platforms in the realm of cricket broadcasting.
As the series draws near, cricket enthusiasts can look forward to enjoying the matches across various platforms, thanks to the collaboration between Viacom18, Dream Sports, and Prasar Bharati. The provision of both digital and linear rights ensures that fans can catch all the thrilling action as India takes on the West Indies in this highly anticipated cricketing contest.
