After a hectic schedule for the past few months, the Indian team management decided to rest some of their key players. Also, with the new coach and captain taking over from this series, a reshuffle was called for. As a result, an opportunity opened for Venkatesh Iyer to take center stage in the series.  Iyer has earned his place in this side after a fabulous outing in IPL 2021’s second phase. He emerged as a exceptional opening batter for his team and scored 370 runs in just 10 innings at an average of 41. Iyer also scored 4 fifties and picked up 3 wickets with the ball in hand at an average of 23. As a result, he became the perfect replacement for Hardik Pandya, who has struggled with form recently.

Apart from Venkatesh Iyer, this series has opened an opportunity for players like Harshal Patel and Avesh Khan. Harshal Patel was the purple cap holder of IPL 2021 with 32 wickets, while Avesh Khan picked the second-highest wicket-taker with 22 to his name. Some old faces like Shreyas Iyer, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Deepak Chahar, who were not a part of the World Cup squad, also make a comeback.
