Tragic incidents unfold as two fans allegedly end lives after India’s World Cup Final defeat

In a deeply distressing turn of events, two individuals reportedly took their own lives following India’s loss to Australia in the Cricket World Cup final. The tragic incidents occurred in West Bengal’s Bankura and Odisha’s Jajpur. Rahul Lohar, a 23-year-old clothing store employee from Bankura, allegedly hanged himself near a cinema hall in the Belitore police station area around 11 PM on Sunday, immediately after India’s defeat to Australia by six wickets.

Lohar, who had taken a leave to watch the final match, was found lifeless in his room by his brother-in-law Uttam Sur. No apparent issues were evident in Lohar’s life, as Sur informed the police. The house was vacant when the incident transpired. Lohar’s body underwent a post-mortem examination at Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital, prompting the registration of an unnatural death case.

The second distressing case involved 23-year-old Dev Ranjan Das from Jajpur, who was discovered hanging from the terrace of his house in the Binjharpur area after the match on Sunday night. Das, undergoing treatment for an “emotional disorder syndrome,” left home in despair following India’s defeat, according to a family member. An unnatural death case has been registered, with authorities awaiting the autopsy report.
