Even during England’s current Test series against New Zealand, wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow, who coordinated England’s five-wicket triumph at Trent Bridge, has stated that his IPL 2022 spell with Punjab Kings assisted him prepare for Test cricket. The right-handed batsman hammered a T20-style 136 off 92 deliveries to help his side to an unbeatable 2-0 series lead.

Jos Buttler

Buttler, 31, was the highest run scorer in the IPL 2022 season, amassing 863 runs for Rajasthan Royals. The  England cricketer hit four centuries as well as an equal amount of half-centuries at a strike rate of 149. He’s even extended that performance into the three-match series against the Netherlands, where he smashed a 232-run tonne on June 17.

Buttler is also only the third batsman in IPL history to score over 800 runs in a single season. Virat Kohli and David Warner had previously amassed over 800 runs in 2016.

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes, a New Zealand-born England player, was at his top form for nearly two years, putting in multiple match-winning efforts for his country at the highest level. He joined Rising Pune Supergiant for a huge price of INR 14.5 crore, and he came into the IPL as a player with a tremendous reputation. After moving on from Pune, Stokes joined his England mates Buttler and Archer in Rajasthan Royals, and has performed quite enough to be regarded one of England’s top players in IPL history. Stokes has 635 runs at an average of 22.67 and a strike rate of 132.01 in 34 matches, while also taking 26 wickets at an economy rate of 8.25.

Kevin Pietersen

During his playing days, Kevin Pietersen was one of the top limited-overs cricketers in the world. In 2009, he made his IPL debut with RCB, who did make him one of the highest-paid players in the league. After that, he went to the Deccan Chargers and then the Delhi Daredevils without ever playing a match. Considering his international experience, he was even named captain of the Daredevils, and he played a couple match-winning innings for the team from the national capital. Pietersen, a solid off-spinner and a fantastic fielder, does have a lot to give on the field at any point of the game and was one of the IPL’s stars during his time there.

Moeen Ali

Ali spent three seasons with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) before being released prior to the 2021 mega auction. The middle-order batsman only appeared in three matches for RCB past season and failed to contribute anything notable. He went on to secure his place in the playing XI after joining MS Dhoni’s CSK in 2021.

Ali was one of the standout players who helped Chennai Super Kings win their fourth IPL title in 2021. Last year, the southpaw scored 357 runs and took six wickets in 15 games. Ali scored 244 runs and took 8 wickets in ten matches in the just concluded IPL 2022.
