According to Team India captain Rohit Sharma, Axar Patel has not bowled much in the first two Tests because Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin have performed admirably.
He believes that when a team uses three spinners, the third one is frequently under-bowled and that there is little that can be done about it.
In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Jadeja and Ashwin are the top two wicket-takers. While the left-arm spinner has taken 17 wickets, the off-spinner has taken 14. In two Test matches, Axar has only one wicket from 26 overs.
At a press conference on Tuesday, February 28, Rohit discussed Axar’s lack of bowling in the first two Tests. He said –
“Ashwin and Jadeja have both bowled really well, so I have to continue to make them bowl them as much as possible. If you have three spinners, you know that the third spinner is always under-bowled. It’s been Axar in these two Test matches. You never know who the guy will be in the next two Test matches”
