Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has reportedly been hospitalised due to a stomach infection ahead of India’s T20 World Cup group-stage clash against Namibia.
According to reports, Abhishek was unwell even before India’s previous match against the USA, but his condition worsened after the game. He was said to be running a high temperature and was administered intravenous drips for immediate relief. Medical tests are currently being conducted to determine the exact cause and severity of the infection.
During the match against the USA, Abhishek was dismissed for a golden duck and did not take the field during India’s bowling innings. Sanju Samson fielded in his place. He also missed the post-match handshakes following India’s win.
The left-handed batter did not attend the team’s practice session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, raising further doubts over his availability.
India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed that Abhishek is dealing with stomach issues but expressed hope that he could recover in time for the upcoming fixture.
As of now, Abhishek Sharma’s participation in the Namibia match remains uncertain, with the team management closely monitoring his condition.
