India captain Suryakumar Yadav has dropped a significant hint regarding Abhishek Sharma’s availability in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Speaking at the toss ahead of the India vs Namibia match on February 12, Suryakumar said:

“Abhishek is still not fully fit. He may miss one or two matches in the T20 World Cup.”

What does this mean?

With today being February 12 and India’s next fixture scheduled for February 15 against Pakistan in Colombo, Surya’s remark about “one or two matches” suggests that Abhishek Sharma is unlikely to feature in the high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash.

If he sits out both the Namibia game and the Pakistan encounter, it would confirm that the team management is taking a cautious approach with his fitness.

Why this is a big setback

Abhishek Sharma has been in strong form and has played a key role at the top of the order with his aggressive intent in the powerplay. Missing a marquee clash like India vs Pakistan would be a major tactical blow for Team India, especially against a quality bowling attack.

For now, Sanju Samson has slotted in as a like-for-like explosive option.

Team India will be hoping Abhishek regains full fitness soon as the tournament progresses.

Wishing Abhishek Sharma a speedy and complete recovery.
