Indian opener Abhishek Sharma battled a stomach-related illness and did not come out to train on Tuesday, casting doubt over his availability for the T20 World Cup group-stage match against Namibia.

The left-hander has reportedly been dealing with health issues since the previous game and was absent from the practice session ahead of the crucial fixture. Team management is closely monitoring his recovery.

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson had a 30-odd minute batting session against the fast bowlers during training, indicating that he could be in contention if Abhishek is ruled out.

Samson had already fielded in place of Abhishek during the previous match when the opener did not take the field while India bowled. His training session has further fueled speculation that he may slot into the playing XI for the Namibia clash if required.

With India set to face Namibia in their second group-stage match, the final decision will depend on Abhishek’s fitness assessment closer to the game.
