Zimbabwe scripted one of the biggest upsets of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, defeating Australia by 23 runs in Group B at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. It marked Zimbabwe’s first T20 World Cup win over Australia since their famous 2007 triumph.

Batting first, Zimbabwe posted 169/2 in 20 overs, setting up a competitive total against a formidable Australian side. In response, Australia were bowled out for 146 in 19.3 overs, falling short in a tense chase.

The dramatic finish came in the final moments of the innings. Brad Evans bowled a fuller delivery on the pads to Matthew Kuhnemann, who missed the flick. The ball lobbed back towards Evans, who sprinted forward and nailed a direct hit with an under-arm throw. Kuhnemann, caught out of his crease due to forward momentum, failed to ground his bat in time. The third umpire confirmed the run-out, sparking wild celebrations in the Zimbabwe camp.

Sikandar Raza and his teammates erupted in delight as Zimbabwe sealed a famous victory, opening up Group B in style. The win not only revives memories of 2007 but also reinforces Zimbabwe’s growing confidence on the global stage.

A historic night in Colombo, and a reminder that in T20 cricket, no giant is untouchable.
