What a finish. What chaos. What drama.
The South Africa vs Afghanistan clash in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 delivered the first Super Over of the season after a stunning run-out in the final ball of regulation time.
With Afghanistan needing two, Kagiso Rabada bowled a full delivery on middle. Noor Ahmad drove it wide of Marco Jansen at long-off and set off for what looked like an easy couple. One run was completed comfortably.
But in a moment that changed everything, Fazalhaq Farooqi was slow turning for the second. Jansen was quick to the ball and fired it back to Rabada, who completed the run-out at the striker’s end.
The big question followed immediately — was Farooqi in?
The decision was sent upstairs. Replays showed the crucial detail: Farooqi’s bat was in the air when the bails were dislodged. He was short. Out.
Importantly, the dismissal came off a free-hit — and while a batter cannot be dismissed in most conventional ways on a free-hit, a run-out remains valid. Afghanistan had botched what looked like a straightforward two.
With the scores level at the end of 20 overs, the contest moved into a Super Over — the first of this T20 World Cup season.
From no-balls and wides to clutch catches and a last-ball run-out, this was T20 cricket at its most ruthless.
