Abhishek Sharma has reportedly been hospitalised due to a stomach infection and is doubtful for India’s upcoming T20 World Cup group-stage clash against Namibia.

According to a report by Dainik Jagran, the left-handed opener was unwell even before India’s previous match against the USA, and his condition worsened after playing the game. He was reportedly running a high temperature and was administered intravenous drips for immediate relief.

The report further stated that Abhishek has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi, where medical tests are being conducted to assess his condition. A BCCI source told PTI that it remains unclear whether he will be discharged soon, but his availability for the Namibia match currently looks doubtful.

The youngster missed India’s training session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. During the match against the USA, Abhishek was dismissed for a golden duck and did not take the field during India’s bowling innings, with Sanju Samson fielding in his place. He was also absent from the post-match handshakes following India’s victory.

India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate provided a brief update on Tuesday, saying, “Abhi still has a few issues with his tummy. We are hopeful that he’ll be available for the game in two days’ time.”

Meanwhile, ten Doeschate confirmed that Washington Sundar has joined the Indian squad ahead of the February 12 fixture against Namibia. He also shared an update on Jasprit Bumrah, stating that the pacer has resumed bowling after a 10-day break and is feeling better.

India will face Namibia in their second group-stage match on February 12, with Abhishek’s fitness likely to be monitored closely over the next 24 hours.
