T20 World Cup to start from October 17 in UAE, final on November 14

The T20 World Cup 2021 is starting from October 17 in the UAE two days after the Indian Premier League (IPL) final. The final of the T20 World Cup is scheduled for November 14. The first game of resumption of IPL will start on September 19, the final will be on October 15. The IPL was suspended in May due to several COVID-19 cases were reported in the bio-bubble. The upcoming T20 World Cup will contain 16 teams. This tournament was to have happened in India but due to the spark of COVID-19 cases and expectation of the third wave, the tournament is shifted to UAE.

As per the report, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), “Round 1, which will include 12 matches, four-team from this lot of eight – Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman, Papua New Guinea – will then progress to the Super 12s, joining the top-ranked eight T20I teams.” For the super twelves, the top eight ranked teams are Australia, New Zealand, West Indies and Pakistan, these are Group A.

On the other hand, Group B –  England, India, South Africa, and Afghanistan. A final decision on the host country will be taken later this month. ICC said on an official release, “The Board confirmed that the BCCI will remain the hosts of the event regardless of where the event is played. “
