T20 World Cup 2022: Dinesh Karthik dropped from Gautam Gambhir’s playing XI

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir names his top Indian batsmen for the T20 World Cup 2022 during the commentary of ongoing second match of the five-match T20I series featuring India and South Africa at Barabati stadium on Sunday. Dinesh Karthik was dropped in preference of young player Deepak Hooda by the former Indian opener.

The Indian team selected a solid batting order to battle the Proteas in the T20I series, but Gambhir was vocal over Deepak Hooda’s absence and wished him to replace Dinesh Karthik.

The Indian team picked Dinesh Karthik, an experienced and worthy wicketkeeper-batsman, over Hooda, who had a terrific campaign for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2022. Regardless of the fact that Karthik barely faced two balls in the first match, Gambhir believes Hooda should’ve been given a chance since he has the ability to play for the national team.

Meanwhile Dinesh Karthik showed off his finishing abilities with a 21-ball 30-run cameo in the second T20I of the five-match series against South Africa on Sunday, helping India record 148 for six after being put into bat.
