World No. 1 batter Suryakumar Yadav is set to captain Team India in the three-match T20 series during their Ireland tour.
Initially, media reports suggested Jasprit Bumrah might lead in the absence of Hardik Pandya, who might be rested for the series starting on August 18. The tour gains importance as it will be a useful preparation for Indian players participating in the Asian Games 2023.
To manage workload, Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill are likely to miss Ireland’s T20I series. Due to limited turnaround time between Florida and Dublin, the BCCI is expected to field a second-string side, also representing India in the Asian Games 2023.
This presents an opportunity for Suryakumar Yadav, renowned in the T20 world, to lead India.
