Surrey Cricket Club has made a significant addition to its roster by signing promising India A batsman, Sai Sudharsan, for the last three County Championship matches of the season. The 21-year-old left-handed batter has been making waves with his impactful performances on the cricketing stage. His recent achievements include a century against Pakistan A in the ACC Men’s Emerging Cup and an impressive knock of 96 in the final of IPL 2023.
Sudharsan, still in the early stages of his first-class career, has showcased his batting prowess by amassing 598 runs at an impressive average of 42.71 from just eight games. His consistent form and ability to deliver under pressure have caught the attention of cricketing experts and mentors.
Alec Stewart, the Director of Cricket at Surrey, expressed his excitement about the new addition, stating that Sudharsan comes highly recommended by respected figures in Indian cricket. Stewart mentioned that Sudharsan’s inclusion would provide additional batting options for the crucial final matches of the season. He also highlighted the importance of having a diverse squad with the busy international and domestic cricket calendar.
Sudharsan’s debut for Surrey is eagerly awaited, with his availability set to begin from the upcoming fixture against Warwickshire on September 3. He joins Surrey as the second overseas signing during this period, following Kemar Roach. Notably, other overseas players Tom Latham and Sean Abbott are currently engaged in international series for New Zealand and Australia respectively.
