Vijay Mallya, previous owner of Royal Challengers Bangalore, recently posted a selfie of himself with the legendary West Indies batsman, Chris Gayle. Gayle has a “great friendship” with the business tycoon. He was a part of the Bangalore-based franchise from 2011 to 2017.
Taking to Twitter, Mallya shared a picture with Gayle while captioning it saying, “Great to catch up with my good friend Christopher Henry Gayle @henrygayle , the Universe Boss. Super friendship since I recruited him for RCB. Best acquisition of a player ever.”
Gayle joined RCB in 2011 and played with the team through 2017. With 3420 runs scored in 91 games at an average of 43.29 and a strike rate of 154.40, including 21 half-centuries and five centuries, he dominated the IPL while playing for the RCB. While representing RCB, the flashy batsman also hit a spectacular unbeaten 175. It just so happens to be the highest individual score in the competition’s history.
Gayle created a dangerous combo with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, destroying bowling attacks and setting records at will. In 2012 and 2013, he scored more than 700 runs in each of the season. Due to his 608 and 733 run totals in 2011 and 2012, respectively, he won the Orange Cap. Gayle played for the Punjab Kings from 2017 till 2021 after leaving the RCB in that year.
