The cricket legend and icon left out opening batsmen Shikhar Dhawan from the squad and picked Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as the openers for the tournament. He picked three players from Mumbai Indians in the squad he selected. Suryakumar Yadav will occupy the No.3 position, the Pandya brothers, Hardik and Krunal will take the reigns of the middle order.

Middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has also been excluded from the squad picked by Gavaskar. The all-rounders selected by him were Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. The bowlers selected by him consisted of five pacers: Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, and Mohammed Shami and a lone spinner in Yuzvendhra Chahal.

The original Little Master told SportsTak about the inclusion of Krunal Pandya and said that because he’s an all-rounder and an experienced player who has performed well in the IPL for many years so for Gaga soar, he surely deserves a place. He’s left-handed, which is an advantage as well according to Gavaskar.
