On the second day of the highly anticipated WTC Final 2023, Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith showcased his brilliance as he reached yet another milestone in his illustrious career. Smith, already batting on 95*, wasted no time in completing his century, smashing two boundaries off just two balls. This remarkable feat marked Smith’s ninth Test century against India, equalling the record held by Joe Root for scoring the most number of centuries against the Indian cricket team.

Facing the bowling of Mohammed Siraj, Smith effortlessly dispatched the ball to the boundary, reaching his seventh century in England. In a moment of celebration, he took off his helmet, raised his bat towards the pavilion, and tenderly kissed the crest on his helmet, acknowledging the significance of the achievement.

Smith’s century further solidified his status as one of Australia’s greatest batsmen. It also propelled him to join an elite group of players who have scored the most Test centuries for Australia. The current standings include Ricky Ponting at the top with 41 centuries, followed by Steve Waugh with 32, and Smith himself with 31. Matthew Hayden and the legendary Sir Don Bradman complete the list with 30 and 29 centuries, respectively.
