Sri Lanka clinch ODI series against Afghanistan with dominant win

In a spectacular display of batting and bowling prowess, Sri Lanka sealed the ODI series against Afghanistan with a resounding victory by 155 runs in the second ODI at Pallekele.

Charith Asalanka’s impressive knock of 97 not out off 74 balls and Wanindu Hasaranga’s scintillating spell of 4-27 were the standout performances of the match. Sri Lanka’s batting lineup shone brightly, with Kusal Mendis (61), Sadeera Samarawickrama (52), and Janith Liyanage (50) also contributing with half-centuries, propelling the team to a formidable total of 309/6 in 50 overs.

Afghanistan showed resilience with Rahmat Shah (63) and Ibrahim Zadran (54) stitching a commendable partnership. However, once the partnership was broken, Afghanistan’s innings collapsed rapidly, succumbing to Sri Lanka’s bowling attack led by Hasaranga.

The collapse saw Afghanistan’s innings coming to an end after just 33.5 overs, with Sri Lanka’s bowlers dominating the middle order. Asitha Fernando and Dilshan Madushanka chipped in with two wickets each, ensuring Afghanistan fell well short of the target.

With this victory, Sri Lanka affirmed their dominance in the series, leaving Afghanistan with a tough challenge ahead to salvage pride in the remaining match.
