Sri Lanka Board set to open bids for global media rights on March 1

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is seeking bids for global media rights, and a few Indian broadcast companies are interested.  SLC hopes to open bids on Wednesday (March 1) in Colombo. The rights are valid for four years, from April 2023 to March 2027.

According to reports, Sony Sports, the current global rights holder, may face competition from Star Sports and digital player FanCode, but what may make the bidding interesting is Viacom 18’s late interest. The new market entrant is believed to have contacted SLC officials to inquire whether participation in the bidding is possible at this time.

The current market value of the SLC global rights is estimated to be between $ 23 and $25 million, and the value of the new tender will be determined by the number of bidders. It may exceed $ 25 million, but the property will be valued based on the number of games Sri Lanka hosts India during the period.
