After Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, fans of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly will be able to watch his life story unfold on the big screen. The report of a biopic being made about the former cricketer has been confirmed by him.
“Yes, I have agreed to the biopic. It will be in Hindi but it is not possible to reveal the name of the director now. It will take some more time for everything to be finalised,” the president of the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) told News 18 Bangla.
Now, it remains to be revealed who would play Ganguly on screen. Fans of Sourav Ganguly also known as ‘Dada’, will undoubtedly get to see the classic moments of his life, from the pivotal shirtless moment on the Lord’s balcony to the ignominious Chappell years.
Ganguly was asked who he would choose to play his role in his biography on Neha Dhupia’s chat show No Filter Neha last year. That time Ganguly couldn’t come up with a name so Neha Dhupia suggested Hrithik Roshan’s name, to which the cricketer replied.
“But he’s got to get a body like me, first. A lot of people would say the way Hrithik’s body is, how good-looking he is, and how muscular he is, people would say ‘Aree, you’ll have to get a body like Hrithik’. But, Hrithik will have to get a body like me before he starts.”
According to reports, Ganguly’s biopic will be filmed under a big production banner on a large scale.
Previously, Indian cricket fans were treated to watch Sachin: A Billion Dreams, a documentary-drama starring Sachin Tendulkar. M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, starring Sushant Singh Rajput as the former India captain. Fans are now waiting for the release of 83, a Ranveer Singh-led film on India’s first World Cup victory in 1983 under the captaincy of legendary Kapil Dev. A biopic of Indian women’s cricketer Mithali Raj is also in the work, starring Taapsee Pannu.
