The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has stated that the Ranji Trophy will be played as per the schedule, reported ANI.
The coronavirus outbreak has affected the sports world especially in Europe, a lot of fixtures had to be suspended because of the players testing positive for the virus as well as the teams lacking players to appear on the group. Meanwhile, in India, the local events and tournaments of First Division, Second Division and District have been announced by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to be postponed following the players being testing positive for COVID-19.
The Cricket Association of Bengal will be taking sudden steps to vaccinate their registered players who are under 15-18, said the CAB official notice reported ANI.
While the sudden rise of the COVID-19 cases in the country has questioned many tournaments’ future, Ganguly has confirmed that the event will be played as it has been scheduled. “Yes, the Ranji Trophy will proceed as planned,” told the BCCI president to ANI.
The upcoming edition of the tournament is scheduled to commence from this month of the 13th and will run till March 20, 2022. The group stage fixtures as well the knockouts will be hosted by Kolkata.
