Galle: Ahead of England’s tour in India, Joe Root got his form and played an outstanding role against the hosts. Sri Lankan skipper Dinesh Chandimal said that we need to learn batting from Joe Root after losing the series by 2-0 against the visitors.
England needed just 164 runs in the 2nd Test match to cease the series and they did their job very well as they chased down the score with the help of Dominic Sibley unbeaten 56 and Jos Buttler’s 48 balls 46 with 6 wickets in hand. With this, they also equal the record of India by winning the series by 2-0 against the hosts.
Joe Root smashed a brilliant hundred in the first inning of the second test and also got awarded Man of The Match in both matches. He scored 186 in the second match’s first-inning while a brilliant 200-run inning in the first match. Chandimal believed that the visitor skipper leads his team very well and outplayed them on the 4th day of the match because of his efforts.
“We were outplayed today. We did all the hard work over the last three days, but as a batting unit, we made the same mistake we made in the first Test on the first day. We need to learn to bat like Root. We need to patient with the bat. We did well in patches, but it isn’t enough against a team like England. Credits to them, they did very well. Even I didn’t understand the collapse. I played a rash shot, so I take responsibility. But nobody in our line-up took responsibility. A score of 250 have been good on this wicket,” said Sri Lanka’s skipper Dinesh Chandimal.
