As he walked back for 0 in the first game, followed by 10 runs in the second, and partnered Suryakumar Yadav for 24 runs in last night’s (August 2) victory, Shreyas Iyer has been battling to blast a strong innings against West Indies in the T20 Internationals.

Former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad criticised the team India selectors and advised the BCCI to replace Shreyas Iyer, who has been underperforming in recent games, with Sanju Samson.

The former Indian bowler claims that Shreyas is unprepared for the T20 format and would do better if he concentrated on the 50-over format. Sanju Samson, despite being in the squad, is yet to face the maroons as he is being benched for the first three T20Is.

“Some of the selection calls keeping the upcoming World T20 in mind are worth pondering. Shreyas Iyer in T20 cricket when you have Sanju Samson, Hooda and Ishan Kishan in the team is bizarre. With Virat, Rohit and Rahul definite starters ,need to work on getting right balance,” tweeted Venkatesh Prasad.

When a fan commented “Iyer did good in past,” the Indian pacer replied “He is good in 50 over cricket. In T20 cricket, there are better players as of now who can get going from the word go. Shreyas will have to work hard on his skills for T20.”

Known for his compatible combination with veteran Javagal Srinath, the Indian pacer has played over 150 games in the ODIs and 33 Test matches, followed by being a part of team management for IPL’s Punjab Kings for sometime
