Shreyas Iyer likely to miss the World Cup: Report

With the World Cup 2023 coming into the picture in 3 months, the Indian team is gearing up to face West Indies in the month of July. It can be seen as an opportunity for gaining momentum toward the ODI World Cup.

The selection of the Indian team for the World Cup is still not decided as many players have been suffering from the injuries and are not yet fully recovered. Key players like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah have not yet been featured in any matches due to injuries.

The BCCI has decided to feature Bumrah in the Ireland series and they have said that “KL Rahul is on the road of recovering” and can be featured in the Asia Cup.
The official added that “Iyer is also recovering but the progress of recovering is slow, we can’t be sure that he will play in the ODI world cup”. The official also said that BCCI wants Iyer to play some matches in the Asia Cup, but he is recovering at a slow pace so he can’t be featured in the World Cup or in the Asia Cup.

Shreyas Iyer has been injured in the lower back area and has been struggling since the Bangladesh Series 2022. He missed the Border-Gavaskar series as well as the IPL 2023 edition due to the injury. He has been playing at no.4 in the ODI for team India and with his exclusion from the team, BCCi can see SUryakumar Yadav or Sanju Samson as a replacement to fill the void of no.4 position.
