Indian team have won the Border Gavaskar Trophy after winning the 4-match Test series by 2-1. Now the Indian team will play three ODIs against the Kangaroos. But Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order batsman of the Indian cricket team, may miss the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Australia starting from 17th March due to a back injury. The news has come as a blow to the Indian team.

Iyer had sustained the injury during the first ODI against England on March 23, 2021, and had to miss the remainder of the series. He then underwent rehabilitation and successfully recovered in time for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. He again got injured during India’s 4th Test match. It seems that the injury has resurfaced, and the team management is being cautious with his fitness.

Iyer’s absence would create a void in the Indian middle-order, which has already been struggling for consistency. In his absence, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan are likely to get opportunities to stake their claim for a spot in the Indian team.

The Australian team, on the other hand, will be looking to capitalize on India’s injury woes and continue their winning streak in the ODI format. The team has been in great form in white-ball cricket.
