Shakib Al Hasan chosen over Litton Das as Bangladesh’s captain for Asia Cup and World Cup 2023

Bangladesh Cricket Board President, Nazmul Hasan, announced that veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will lead the national cricket team in the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup ODIs. The decision followed Tamim Iqbal’s recent resignation from the captaincy.

Shakib’s appointment was widely anticipated, although contenders like Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan were considered for the role. The board acknowledged that discussions regarding a long-term captaincy were ongoing and contingent upon Shakib’s availability and comfort.

While currently engaged with his team in the Lanka Premier League, Shakib will captain until the World Cup, after which his tenure’s future will be decided. Litton Das will continue as vice-captain and lead the team in Shakib’s absence. Nazmul Hasan also noted that the squad announcement delay was due to the absence of a captain for consultation.

Shakib, who already leads the Test and T20I teams, previously captained the ODI squad during the 2011 World Cup. The decision emphasizes his experience and commitment to cricket. As Bangladesh prepares for the Asia Cup and World Cup, Shakib’s leadership will play a pivotal role, and the cricketing community awaits his return to shape the team’s journey.
