Mayank Agarwal had been in a great form in the recently concluded Indian Premier League. The opener of Kings XI Punjab scored 424 runs in just 11 matches. As Rohit Sharma will miss the first two Test matches. The Indian team has to find an opener which can face the challenging pitches in Australia. Sachin Tendulkar, veteran test cricketer, reckons Agarwal surely is a great starter in the Tests.
Tendulkar in an interview with the PTI said “Mayank, I know, is a confirmed starter because he has scored big runs and if Rohit is fit and available, then he should be there. Between other guys (Prithvi Shaw, KL Rahul), that will be the management’s decision as they would be knowing who’s the form man,”
Agarwal has managed to impress the Indian selectors. He has been named in all three formats for the first time in the Indian team. Mayank might face tough competition from star openers KL Rahul, Shubman Gill for opener spots in the limited-overs format. However, legendary Indian cricketer Tendulkar believes he is a sure-shot starter for the Test matches.
India is preparing for a long tour of Australia. The men in blue will play full series involving three ODIs – starting on November 27, three T20Is – starting December 4, and four Tests – beginning from December 17.
Tendulkar also agreed that skipper Virat Kohli’s absence will certainly create a problem for Indian Team. The team must find someone who can fill the huge void. The former Indian batsmen further believes that Kohli’s absence will create an opportunity for someone else to rise.
