The first ODI between South Africa and England has been abandoned as per the reports coming in from the ECB. The ODI has been abandoned on the basis of COVID cases coming out of the hotel staff in Cape Town.
Earlier the first ODI was postponed from Friday to Sunday after the reports came in of South African player being tested positive for COVID-19 virus. The ECB and CSA decided that the match will be played on Sunday, that is 6th December.
The English players weren’t in favor of going ahead with the tour even before it began as the South African camp reported couple of positive cases in their side. They went ahead with the tour and have already won the T20 series by 3-0 and are favorites as well to win the ODI’s as they are currently the World Champions.
South Africa will be missing services of key players like Faf Du Plesis and Kagiso Rabada for the ODI series. Meanwhile England will not have Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes in their side. Joe Root will have a great chance to prove himself in the ODI side as he is making a comeback as well as Chris Woakes who will be coming after quite sometime.
