Former Indian Player now commentator Aakash Chopra looked at the reasons why Royal Challengers Bangalore did not retain their star bowler Yuzvendra Chahal for the 2022 Indian Premier League season but he thinks the Bangalore based team will buy the spinner in the IPL mega auction which is going to be held on 12th and 13th of February.
Chahal was RCB’s second-highest wicket-taker in the previous season after Harshal Patel’s record 32 wickets, with 18 dismissals, which were the highest number of wickets for a spinner in the UAE leg. However, RCB released both the bowlers who achieved this feat and retained their former captain Virat Kohli, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and fastmen Mohammed Siraj ahead of the IPL mega auction.
Aakash Chopra feels that the leg-spinner might have wanted a hefty amount for retention which RCB could not afford, but felt that they can buy him back at the mega auction for around INR 6-6.5 crore. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra said this on his official YouTube channel.
He added by saying Harshal Patel could also be bought back in a similar kind of way where the franchise could save their budget and thinks this is not a bad decision made by the franchise.
RCB would not let their main spinner go so easily in the auction and would try to get him and also their pacer Harshal Patel onboard once again. Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained three players and are left with a purse of 57 crores to buy the rest of their squad in the upcoming IPL mega auction in February.
