Rohit Sharma tests COVID – 19 positive; Rishabh Pant likely to lead the side in Eng v Ind, 5th Test

Rohit Sharma tested positive for COVID – 19 on Saturday. The player was tested positive in the Rapid antigen test.

Rohit Sharma could miss the fifth test against England in the series that is tied up at 2-1, being led by India. India is ahead in this series and will look to make the most out of their chances to emerge triumph since 2007. The team has played their best cricket in the league with the likes of KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Rohit Sharma, stepping up to the occasion. But, the newly appointed skipper, Rohit Sharma, has tested COVID – 19 positive ahead of the final test against England.

The BCCI announced from its Twitter handle, “UPDATE – #TeamIndia Captain Mr. Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday. He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team.”

It is still not clear who will lead India in the absence of Rohit Sharma if the player misses the match. Possibility of Rishabh Pant, who was appointed vice-captain of the team in the absence of KL Rahul, will most likely lead the side in the series decider Test match.
