Indian stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane, head coach Ravi Shashtri, Rohit Sharma, Shardul Thakur, and Prithvi Shaw arrived in Mumbai after conquering the Gabba fortress. Indian team created history by defeating the Australian team at their home ground Brisbane after 32 years.
India beat Australia by 3 wickets against all odds in the final test of the series on Tuesday and survived to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy once again. India won the series by 2-1, and that too with an inexperienced bowling line-up.
Rohit Sharma scored 129 runs in the last two matches and played an important role as an opener to make India proud. He also managed to create a 50+ partnership for India after 14 matches with the young opener Shubhman Gill. Rahane led India after the bitter loss in Adelaide, he led India from the front and played a match-winning knock in the second Test, and helped India to stand strong in front of the hosts.
Shardul Thakur’s all-round performance was all over the internet for the last many days as he was one of the most valuable players during the series. In the last test, he played his heart out as he got 3 wickets and scored 67 runs in the first inning, and then picked 4 wickets in the second inning.
” Our apex body will soon have a meeting and we will decide on felicitating our players and team who performed exceptionally well in Australia. We are also trying to find a suitable time before the England series to felicitate the players,” said Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Vijay Patil.
