Former opener Gautam Gambhir believes that Team India’s batsmen should have considered taking part in a few Ranji Trophy matches in order to get ready for the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia.
The home team’s batsmen mostly fell short during the third Test between India and Australia; instead, the guests had more success with the bat and ultimately won the match.
“It is very important to play red-ball cricket before an important series”: Gautam Gambhir
Gautam Gambhir claimed in an interview with Sports Tak that practicing red-ball cricket before a crucial series can be very beneficial. He believed that Australia also struggled in the first two Tests because they decided not to play any exhibition games while on tour.
“The Indian batters should have played a few Ranji Trophy matches ahead of the Test series against Australia. However, they shouldn’t have played those matches just to prepare. It doesn’t matter if you conduct 20-day camps or bat in the nets,” Gautam Gambhir said.
“Australia struggled in the first two matches because of their mindset of not playing practice matches. This is a negative mindset. The same goes for the Indian batters. It is very important to play red-ball cricket before an important series,” Gautam Gambhir added.
