Ravindra Jadeja ruled out for the rest of the T20 series vs Australia; Shardul Thakur named as the replacement

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement in the media concerning Jadeja’s concussion that read, “The diagnosis was confirmed based on a clinical assessment in the dressing room during the innings break by the BCCI Medical Team. Jadeja remains under observation and will be taken for further scans if required based on the assessment on Saturday morning. He will not take any further part in the ongoing T20I series,”

Jadeja was hit on the helmet by a Mitchell Starc bouncer and also suffered from a hamstring injury and was thus ruled out of the match, being declared ‘concussed’. Yuzvendra Chahal was brought on as a substitute for the all rounder. Australian coach Justin Langer was visibly upset with the decision but nevertheless bringing Chahal on worked as the leg spinner took 3 wickets in his 4 overs, getting Aaron Finch and Steve Smith out in his first two overs.

Fast bowler Shardul Thakur has been named as Ravindra Jadeja’s replacement for the remaining two T20s. India will have to get their combinations right considering they lose an all rounder for the remainder of the series. Losing Jadeja is a big blow because Hardik Pandya still hasn’t started bowling in full flow yet.

India and Australia play the 2nd T20 in Sydney on Sunday, December 6.
