As per the reports, Ravindra Jadeja is set to become the next candidate for team India’s Test vice-captain.
Earlier former BCCI selector adviced Ravindra Jadeja or Rishabh Pant to become the Test vice-captain.
When asked, who can become the next vice-captain of the Indian Test team, Karim said: “Several factors should be kept in mind while choosing the next vice-captain. Age etc. because the guy has to lead India in the World Test Championship cycle. Currently, I feel there are two candidates – Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant. But Jadeja’s workload is huge. Maybe the team management is waiting for Pant to regain fitness, after the accident that he suffered.”
Rishabh Pant due to his car accident is out of cricket for a long time and as per the reports Pant’s recover may take more than a year, which brings Jadeja into light as the only choice of Test Vice-Captain.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravichandran Ashwin are two additional likely candidates, but both are dubious when age is taken into consideration. Team India may spend time developing Jadeja as the upcoming skipper for India in whites while he is competing to become the next vice-captain.
