Ranji Trophy to begin from February 16

A BCCI official said that the idea is to prevent at least one team from travelling to the venue. The venues likely to be conducted for the Ranji trophy are Chennai, Trivandrum, Cuttack, Baroda, Ahmedabad, and Rajkot.

The Ranji Trophy 2021-22, which will be divided into two phases, pre and post IPL (Indian Premier League) is all set to start from February 16. The group stage games of the Elite group stage will be played till the 5th March.

The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) has chosen nine venues for the Ranji trophy. Eight venues will be having eight Elite Groups comprising of four teams each, whereas the ninth venue will host six teams in the Plate Group. The matches are ready to be staged in some venues which would be ‘home turf’ for a few teams as well.

In the Elite Group, the top side in each pool (eight teams overall) will succeed towards the next stage, which is going to be the ‘Super League’, or the knockouts, and will be played after the IPL.

The Plate group consists of six teams playing each other. In this group, the top two teams will get promoted to the Elite Group next year. After the league stage, the teams take a break from the IPL, which will start on March 27.
