Kolkata: The young skipper of Assam Riyan Parag leads his team to victory against Bengal. Riyan Parag shown an all-round performance as Assam defeated Bengal by 13 runs in the penultimate group tie of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Bengal won the toss and elected bowl, but unable to use the conditions in their favour. The unbeaten 77 of the skipper helped Assam to put up a healthy 157 for 5 in their quota of 20 overs. Bengal finished on 144 for 8. Riyan Parag, the young talent of India plays for Rajasthan Royals in IPL and also played a crucial knock at league stage for his team by maintaining a partnership with Rahul Tewatiya.
Pritam Das also showed his brilliance with the ball and took 3 wickets which made things easy for Assam. Earlier, Bengal sent Assam openers back to pavilion early but the 76-runs partnership of Denish and Parag helped Assam to get back in the game. Parag did some heavy hitting to remain not out on 77 off 54 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes.
In retaliation, Bengal’s skipper Anustup Majumdar held on to one side but found no support other than Manoj Tiwary who scored 33 off 22 with 3 fours and 2 charismatic sixes. Anustup remained not out on 48 off 47 in a losing cause. Manoj Tiwary is also the part of Kings XI Punjab IPL team.
